In Our Words - Cintas
SARAH Works – Ask our Business Partners!
It’s almost a race to see who can fold the bright white towels the fastest, straightest, and into the highest pile. Pam, Rachel, Laurie, and C.J. all have their own methods of meeting their personal best on their job for Cintas. Just ask them! They will answer you with words, actions or maybe a big smile, but you know they are pleased with their efforts.

This is SARAH in Action at SARAH’s Enrichment Center in Branford. SARAH Inc.’s enrichment programs stretch throughout the shoreline with Guilford, Madison and Westbrook locations, as well.

Bins of clean aprons, towels and washcloths are shuttled back and forth between a Cintas plant and the neighboring SARAH facility for folding. SARAH workers also sort hangers at the plant for Cintas uniforms. Cintas, serving more than 700,000 businesses throughout North America, and providing customized service programs for such specialties as uniforms and apparel, and clean room resources, has been working with SARAH Inc. for some time.

At the far side of the long work room, other SARAH participants are assembling small boxes for four-packs of batteries. Another group is inserting newspapers into plastic bags for local delivery. At other times, they’ve tested light bulbs, or assembled other light industrial packages and items. SARAH Inc. has also initiated a recycling program that is based in Branford. All SARAH workers are paid.

A Typical Day
In addition to working at a packaging or assembly job for our business partners, a typical day at SARAH in Action may involve learning computer skills, attending cooking classes and enjoying social and leisure activities. SARAH in Action participants are also involved in a wide variety of community volunteer projects, such as delivering hot meals or library books to homebound neighbors.

“We see the abilities in every person we serve. Our goal at SARAH in Action and as an agency is to offer a vital link of services and supports that enhance skills and enrich lives,” said SARAH Inc. Executive Director Patricia Bourne. “SARAH in Action programs are ideal for those who cannot or choose not to work full time, but want a variety of options and opportunities to learn new skills and to remain active in the communities in which they live.

“We accomplish this by focusing on innovative ideas, turning ideas into reality, and by using all technologies available to us.”
